Oral Examinations

Our dentists recommend regular examinations at your dental office every six months. This allows your dentist to monitor your oral health and identify issues quickly. Proactive dental care means you may have less dental visits in the long run.

The exam provides your dentist with an opportunity to inspect the health of your teeth, gums, and bite. During the exam, you may also have dental x-rays, oral cancer screening, or other diagnostic procedures as required.

Hygiene Cleanings

During your visit, your dental hygienist will perform a professional deep cleaning of your teeth and gums.

Beginning with an instrument called a scaler, your hygienist will remove tartar and plaque build-up on your teeth. An electric polisher and coarse toothpaste will then remove any leftover stains or plaque missed by the scaler. A thorough flossing of your teeth will follow.

Your hygienist may also offer some suggestions or recommendations for preventive hygiene at home.

Professional Fluoride Treatment

At Park Square Dental Centre we provide flouride treatment for children and adults to fortify tooth enamel and prohibit decay. Treatment is in the form of a rinse, foam, gel, or varnish, and offers a higher concentration of fluoride than over-the-counter treatments.

A natural mineral, fluoride is used in dentistry to help restore the minerals in the tooth's enamel, preventing or even reversing tooth decay.

Preventive Hygiene at Home

To maintain your oral hygiene between appointments, you should brush your teeth at least twice a day, for two minutes each time.

You should also floss once a day, ideally before going to bed at night.
